Soft Demo
What is a Soft Demo?
A soft demolition (also called selective demolition) is a controlled and careful removal of specific parts of a structure, rather than tearing down the entire building. It’s typically used to preserve the integrity of the remaining structure while removing certain elements for renovation, remodeling, or repurposing.

Key Characteristics of Soft Demolition:
● Targeted removal: Only non-structural elements are taken out—like drywall, flooring, ceiling tiles, cabinetry, fixtures, windows, or doors.
● Preserves structure: Load-bearing walls, foundational elements, and structural beams are usually left untouched.
● Minimal disruption: Ideal for interior renovations where the building will remain occupied or operational.
● Salvaging materials: Often used to recover reusable or recyclable components (e.g., wood, metal, appliances).
● Lower noise and dust: Compared to full or “hard” demolition, it’s quieter and creates less debris.
Common Uses:
● Interior remodels in homes, offices, or commercial spaces.
● Tenant improvements in leased spaces (e.g., retail stores).
● Historical preservation, where only damaged or outdated elements are removed.
● Green building practices, where sustainable deconstruction is a priority.
